Daucus carota (Umbelliferae) - A member of the Parsley family, it is also known as Queen Anne's Lace. Although it is listed as edible, there are a few reasons not to try it. Firstly, There are some very poisonous plants which are very similar in appearance. Wild carrot can be distiguished in a few ways, one of which is the presence of the small purple flower in the center of the umbrell. Another reason to skip them is that the roots are very woody. You'd have to work very hard to have much to eat. They bloom from early summer through early fall. (Photographed in WI)
