Gaultheria procumbens - Also known as "Teaberry", this plant has a long history of both internal and external medicinal use. It contains methyl salicylate, an anti-inflammatory commonly found in muscle rubs. A tea was also made from the fresh leaves, both to treat various ailments, and as a substitute for expensive imported tea by the early settlers. It is an evergreen, preferring acid soil and cooler climates (and thus higher elevations further south). It can often be found sharing space with Blueberries. Blooms in mid-summer.
